The CAGED concept is basically a way to visualize chord shapes across the fret board. The next level of this concept is to teach yourself where the scale notes are as they correspond with each chord shape. Finally, the idea is to connect all of these chords shapes along with the scale notes going up and down the neck. You don’t have to learn all of this in one shot. Instead, I think of it like pieces of a puzzle. Each time you learn something like a cool lick that works in one area you can begin to apply that concept to other chords and it will help free you up to improvise more freely.

I've been passionate about guitar since I was 15, starting out on acoustic steel-string before expanding into electric guitar. Today, I share that passion by teaching private guitar lessons in Plano, Texas, helping students of all levels grow their skills and confidence.
